South Ossetia Disaster Victims Remembered

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev declared August 13th a day of mourning as Georgian Armed Forces invaded South Ossetia and killed civilian populations. Russia has also declared this “genocide” a humanitarian disaster which qualified as an act of aggression and will be dealt with accordingly.

Pope to Visit Ground Zero Pray for Disaster Victims

When the Pope arrives to the United States next week, he will visit New York and Washington, D.C.. The Vatican revealed that he will hold a sermon where he will pray for the disaster victims, survivors and even the terrorists of September 11th, 2001.

On the Vatican website, the Missal for each day of the Pope’s U.S. tour was released. The Pope has declared Ground Zero as “the scene of incredible violence and pain.”

The service will begin with the Pope kneeling down and holding a moment of silence Then, lighting a candle and reciting the following:

“God of peace, bring your peace to our violent world: peace in the hearts of all men and women and peace among the nations of the earth.”

“Turn to your way of love those whose hearts and minds are consumed with hatred.”

“God of understanding, overwhelmed by the magnitude of this tragedy, we seek your light and guidance as we confront such terrible events.

“Grant that those whose lives were spared may live so that the lives lost here may not have been lost in vain.”

“Comfort and console us, strengthen us in hope, and give us the wisdom and courage to work tirelessly for a world where true peace and love reign among nations and in the hearts of all.”

Upon conclusion of the service, the Pope will meet with a small group of survivors and family members. He will also bless Ground Zero with Holy Water. He will then travel to D.C. to hold a service there as well.
