We have heard of the government introducing tax relief to disaster vicitms all the time. Problem is, they do it after the disaster has taken place. In the meantime, families are waiting for the government to act. This procrastination delays families from having access to resources that help them start rebuilding their lives.

Kind (D-La Crosse), a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, said the bill would give tax benefits to disaster victims as long as the president makes a disaster declaration. Currently, Congress must approve the tax benefits on a disaster by disaster basis.
